An unfortunate number of Tennessee residents know how it feels to be on the receiving end of debt collection calls. These calls can not only be stressful, but in some cases, they may seem harassing or possibly be unwarranted. While debt consolidation efforts may be made in order to avoid such calls, individuals should not be subjected to harassment in the meantime.
In some cases, debt collection calls can seem to get out of hand. Collectors may appear to take extreme measures in an attempt to get in contact with an individual, such as calling multiple times a day, contacting places of employment or even reaching out to other parties. There have even been some complaints of collectors using inappropriate language during collection calls, which individuals should not be subjected to.
Collectors are also not allowed to take any illegal actions against balance holders. These actions can include threats of arrest or impersonation of government agencies or officials. Unfortunately, though these actions are considered illegal, some parties have filed complaints of being subjected to such actions.
Potentially, the best way to avoid such calls is to take debt consolidation measures. These measures can include creating plans to pay off major bills or taking other actions such as filing for Chapter 13 or other forms of bankruptcy. The best course of action can depend heavily on individual circumstances, and information on Tennessee state laws dealing with bankruptcy and debt management could allow concerned parties to better examine their situation and move forward accordingly.
